The club was started in 1979 in an upstairs room in Stychfields Hall through the enthusiasm of the late Dennis Robson and his son John. The club soon outgrew those facilities and moved downstairs into the staff canteen.
Some years later it was offered the use of the main hall and raced there for many years. A purpose built outdoor tarmac track was constructed around 1990 to the rear of the hall which is used mostly during the summer months.
In Stychfields Hall, the club held 1/12th National competitions for many years. These were very popular, but club members could not always travel the length and breadth of the country to visit other venues. The club therefore started their own competitions run on a similar basis every month and open to all comers. Initially for 1/12th electric cars, these Mini Nats as they were known, were opened up to 1/10th buggies when the interest in 1/12th started dropping off. They ended up catering for 1/10th Off-road and Saloon, F1 and Pro10 classes. They ran up until 1995 when the move of venue resulted in a temporary suspension. The club has also run some major off-road events including the British Grand Prix. For 2019 the club is delighted to be one of the venues chosen by the drivers themselves to hold rounds of the BRCA Clubman series and a round of the ever more popular Iconics series. In 1998 when Alstom
sold land to Persimmon for development, we lost our Purpose Built
Track. Fortunately Alstom Grid (MRI) (now GE Grid Ltd.) stepped in
and allowed us to continue our Indoor Club in their Hall, we were
also offered the use of their Overspill Car Park off Fairway. This
is where our outdoor track is currently sited.
In April 2017, with the
pending closure of the G E Grid site at St Leonards, we managed to
secure a new site for our indoor track. this is still situated in
Stafford at Sir Graham Balfour School
